A Kind Gesture
We often hear of how Santa moves from the North Pole and delivers all the gifts through chimneys, we all too often forget about the local heroes that are more generous than Santa Claus and his mythical reindeers. If you want to know what the Christmas spirit is all about, meet Ashley D’Amico from Frederick County Maryland.
Ashley D’Amico, who is in the process of adopting a brother and sister from Vietnam, wanted to “pay it forward” to the school system where her kids will attend after she finalizes the adoption. D’Amico donated $3,469.96 to balance all the outstanding student meals charges as of Dec. 19, 2017.
Robert Kelly the FCPS Food and Nutrition Services Manager at the Frederick County Maryland Schools said he was grateful for D’Amico’s generous donation. Kelly noted D’Amico was financially well off; she owns a real estate investment company in Pennsylvania.
A quarter of the students in Frederick County are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Many of these families miss the income-eligibility cutoff, but still, struggle to meet basic needs. A GoFundMe account was created to help struggling students and managed to reach half of the set amount of $10000.
